Dr. Harris is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine and a
member of the Texana MHMR Medical Executive Committee, having served as
its Chairperson in 2003. She served as a CTA Fellow through 2005.
Dr.
Harris earned a B.A. in Biology and a Doctorate in
Medicine from the University of
Missouri Kansas City. She completed
both her
Adult Psychiatry and
Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
Residencies at Baylor College of Medicine. As part of her residency in
Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, she clinically assessed and
treated at-risk children and their families at The ChildTrauma Academy.
Dr.
Harris has also
served as a committee member of APA
National Committee of Family Violence and Sexual Abuse, as a member of the
editorial review board for the Jefferson Journal, as a member of the APA
National Committee of Residents and Fellows and as a Texas Medical
Association Resident Delegate.
She has published articles with Dr. Bruce Perry and
has received
awards from both the American Psychiatric Association and the American
Medical Association which include: a 1995 APA Mead Johnson Fellowship
Award, 1995 AMA Glaxo Achievement Award, a
1994 AMA Burroughs-Wellcome Leadership Award
and a 1993 APA/CMHS Fellowship. Dr. Harris enjoys presenting to
groups about the neurobiology of PTSD and treatment options within a
community mental health center.
