Ms. Schick is the Director of
Education and Training for the ChildTrauma Academy. Her efforts focus
on curricular development of the Academy's multi-media, educational
materials and and a wide range of available training activities.
Ms. Schick also assists
in program review and consultation within CTA partnerships.
Ms. Schick has served as a
member of the ChildTrauma Academy team since 1996, participating in the
assessment and treatment of children exposed to traumatic events and
maltreatment. Historically, Ms. Schick has also coordinated special projects
for the ChildTrauma Academy, such as the Children’s Crisis Care Center (4C),
a collaborative project with the Texas Department of Protective and
Regulatory Services and Harris County Children’s Protective Services. In
this role, Ms. Schick contributed to the development of assessment and
research protocols for 4C children and conducted screening assessments with
children under the age of six who were in state custody. Ms. Schick also
coordinated the Brio toy evaluation, assessing the developmental value of
their various products.
Ms. Schick is a 1990 honors
graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, where she received her
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
She completed her
Master’s Degree in Education: Counseling from the University of Houston.
Prior to joining the ChildTrauma Academy, Ms. Schick, worked in both private
and public settings serving adults, children, and families with a variety of
behavioral, developmental, psychiatric, and psychological needs.
Ms. Schick has extensive
experience presenting
and educating about
about the impact of
traumatic experience on children. She has participated in, and presented to
professionals and parent groups at various conferences including numerous
international, national and local organizations.
